After spending a fairly quiet past couple of years without any major musical releases as a group in Korea, Big Bang will finally be making their comeback! YG Entertainment announced through their official blog on November 29th that the group will release their long-awaited new music on February 1st of next year.
This will make it about two years and three months since Big Bang released their last project, their second album to be exact, in November of 2008. They have stayed busy though with their solo activities and acting endeavors, not to mention their promotions in Japan.
Speaking of solo activities, youngest member Seung-ri is expected to release a solo digital single on January 1st of 2011. After releasing “Strong Baby” in November of 2008 through the group’s second album, this will be Seung-ri’s first attempt on his own two feet.
As for the group’s leader, G-Dragon and oldest member T.O.P., the two will come together as a separate unit with plans to start their promotional activities very soon. The two will release two digital singles — “Hi Hi” and “Oh Yeah” — on December 15th, followed by an album containing both tracks on December 24th. The track listing was also unveiled on YG Entertainment’s blog showing that other artists such as Tei and Kush helped in the production process. 2NE1’s Park Bom will also be featured on one of the songs.
G-Dragon and T.O.P. are known for their production, song writing, and rap-writing skills so this release is already gaining much interest. The duo gave a surprise performance of one of the songs on the upcoming album at the recent MAMA (Mnet, Asian Music Awards) show in Macau.
To hold Big Bang fans over until these release dates, the group will be one of the many acts performing at the YG Family Concert on December 4-5 at the Olympic Park Gymansium in Seoul.
